Being a renewable resource, wood production relies mainly on sunlight and water, minimizing its impact on other natural resources. Furthermore, as trees grow, they actively capture and store carbon dioxide, effectively mitigating its presence in the atmosphere. Through conscientious forestry practices, this trapped (or "sequestered") carbon remains locked within the lumber indefinitely, while cleared areas are replenished with new trees, perpetuating the carbon capture cycle.
Additionally, construction-grade lumber is readily available in abundance within the US, reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation. Moreover, the longevity and versatility of wood allow for its continued reuse and repurposing over several decades, diverting construction waste away from landfills.
Sustainably sourced wood has the potential to establish a closed loop, yielding a positive impact on the planet. However, this necessitates the adoption of responsible forestry practices at every stage of the process, from harvesting and removal to milling into usable materials. These sustainable practices encompass various aspects, including pesticide usage during cultivation and the selection of eco-friendly adhesives for binding lumber products.
